Students in this Master’s Program have the opportunity to develop skills in different fields of knowledge, through courses and diverse research topics. The Department seeks professionals and researchers capable of leading top projects in different areas related to the field. The University has different tools such as: a faculty with high academic and human qualities, recognized throughout the country, with rankings well above the national average, academic laboratories, specialized classrooms, computer rooms, an advanced library system, and specialized software.

Applicant Profile

The master’s program is aimed at outstanding students interested in research and delving into areas of strength within the Department. Students will be references in their field.

Applicants must be Electrical or Electronic Engineers, Physicists or graduates from an accredited national or foreign university. Applicants could also be professionals from fields related to these; in specific cases the Department may request the applicant to take leveling courses.

The applicant must have an outstanding academic level or professional performance with grades, diplomas, university professor’s or manager’s recommendations. An undergraduate average of 3.75/5.0 or higher is acceptable for applicants to the master’s programs. GPAs lower to 3.5/5.0 are not the minimum required for admission. All our applicants must be either finishing or completing an undergraduate program.



The Master’s Programs offered by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Los Andes seek to train high-level professionals, capable of working as leaders in their professions, in both the private and public sectors, either as consultant engineers or as advisors in specific areas of the field. Professionals will provide services in financial institutions for infrastructure projects, in government agencies.

The Master’s graduates have a solid training allowing them to approach multidisciplinary problems in a structured way, providing creative and innovative solutions, leading to improvements in engineering practices and business and sectoral change.

Graduate training enables them to lead academic processes as university professors or researchers or to continue their training at the doctoral level.

Electrical Engineering areas of emphasis: power systems, markets and regulation, electronics and power quality.

Electronic Engineering areas of emphasis: electronic systems and microelectronics, control, robotics and automation, telecommunications and complementary transversal areas and biomedical engineering.
